Derek Knottenbelt BVM&S, DVMS, MRCVS
Derek Knottenbelt qualified from Edinburgh University in 1970 and
was awarded his doctorate of veterinary medicine and surgery in
1990. After 12 years in mixed mainly equine practice he joined the
academic world in Zimbabwe. After 4 years there he joined Liverpool
University and is now senior lecturer in equine medicine. He is
currently head of the Philip Leverhulme Hospital and the Division of
Equine Studies.
His main intersts include wound healing and specifically reasons
for the failure of healing in horses. This inevitably involves
cutaneous oncology which is another of his special interests.
Current research intersts include cancer medicine in horses, wound
healing, neurology and eye disease
