8th Annual Scientific Meeting

The 8th Congress took place in Amsterdam in conjunction with the
FECAVA-FEEVA-VOORJAARSDAGEN CONGRESS 2005 (14-17 April), at the RAI Congress
Centre.
The theme was "What's New in Wound Management?" and it included small animal and
equine topics, with recent research findings and practical demonstrations.
Highlights included presentations by Prof. Steven Swaim (small animal wound
healing) on management of difficult wounds and current materials, medications
and techniques in wound management and bandaging. Prof. Derek Knottenbelt and
Dr. Jacintha Wilmink (equine wound healing) present a range of equine cases and
an overview of the latest results of equine wound healing research and
development of new techniques promoting wound healing and reducing
complications. An overview on skin replacement materials and tissue engineered
skin substitutes was given by the director of the Dutch Burn Centres, Dr. Esther
Middelkoop. A workshop on application of modern wound dressings in veterinary
practice was given by Dr. Sarah Cockbill and Prof. Terry Turner in collaboration
with companies involved in this important and developing field.
