Day 1: acute wounds and wound closure

Wound dehiscence is a frequent complication after wound closure. How to deal with acute wounds, which decisions do we have to make, which factors determine healing, how to approach special wounds and how can we reduce the percentage of wound dehiscence. Learn about tips and tricks, pitfalls and summits. Apply the knowledge gained during the day on real cases in the workshop.

Day 2: wounds healing by second intention

Wound treatment, does it really matter?
Learn how to evaluate a wound and how to make an optimal choice for each wound and each phase of healing. You'll even learn how to halve healing time and complications!!

This full day will give an overview on the classes of wound products within the European market and their properties. A dry lab workshop will give you access to the various groups of wound dressings and their characteristics. Your new knowledge will be tested using a variety of interactive cases and can be applied immediately in clinical practice. Delegates are also invited to bring your own cases for discussion.

Day 3: skin grafting and the Meek micrograft technique

(optional: separate registration)
During this wet lab, the registrants will learn how to perform a successful skin graft in horses and how to prevent pitfalls. The wet lab will focus on the Meek micrograft technique and delegates will have the possibility to harvest skin of various thicknesses with an electric dermatome, to exercise the Meek micrograft technique and to prepare micrografts themselves. Additionally, there will be the possibility to learn and refine the common grafting techniques.
